In opposing Kansas' Medicaid expansion, Gov. Sam Brownback, once a fundamentalist Protestant who converted to hard-right Catholicism, managed to work both cruelty and mendacity into one emailed line to the NYT, through his spokeswoman: "[I]t would be irresponsible to 'expand ObamaCare when the program is in a death spiral.'"
There is of course no Obamacare "death spiral," although the Trump administration, with Brownbackian cruelty and mendacity, could send it into one. And I have a hard time imagining Jesus sermonizing on the "irresponsibility" of covering 180,000 childless, adult Kansans.
But such is loving, caring, brother-and-sister-keeping Christianity, Brownback-style.
