Posted here, yesterday: "By Wednesday afternoon [Trump] was, noted the Times, 'by turns angry, defensive and protective but ultimately relieved that for now, the worst appears to be over.' Indeed, he was telling those who have yet to abandon him: 'I think this is getting better.'"
NBC News, this morning: "The Russian lawyer who met with the Trump team after a promise of compromising material on Hillary Clinton was accompanied by a Russian-American lobbyist — a former Soviet counterintelligence officer who is suspected by some U.S. officials of having ongoing ties to Russian intelligence."
But not to worry, my dear Trumpeteers. Trump Jr.'s lawyer, Alan Futerfas, told NBC News: "[The former Soviet counterintelligence officer] told me specifically he was not working for the Russian government, and in fact laughed when I asked him that question."
So that's that. Remember, when Trump Sr. defended himself by relating that Vladimir Putin had "vehemently denied" meddling (probably with Trump's assistance) in the presidential election, the former United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara, remarked that whenever a mobster or corrupt politician vehemently denied something, "we just dropped it usually."
