As noted earlier, Matt Miller's column today rightly condemns Republican hypocrisy on the debt ceiling. In his words,
There’s politics-as-usual.
There’s even hypocrisy-as-usual.
But then — at rare moments — there is political behavior that can only be dubbed Super-Duper Hypocrisy So Brazen They Must Really Think We’re Idiots.
This, however, surpasses the righteous call for mere condemnation. This -- the 42 freshman Republicans' letter (pdf) to President Obama beseeching him to halt the Democratic "Mediscare" assault -- cries out for long terms of imprisonment, preceded by vengeful torture, and both followed by permanent exile:
We have all been guilty, at one time or another, of playing politics with key issues facing our country. As the freshman class, we have the opportunity to wipe the slate clean and ... not continue the petty politics we’ve seen in the past.
The bully's been counterpunched, so the bully cries foul and the bully wants an end to all this "pettiness."
It really does leave one slackjawed.
