Recall for a moment all of the Republican pols who today claim they were ardently opposed to their party's earlier big spending -- those unpaid-for wars, that unfunded entitlement, those fantastically irresponsible un-offset tax cuts -- which of course all passed through their Congressional majorities like Patton's crap through a goose.
Don't ask them to defend their party's erstwhile irrational exuberance and unforgivable extravagance. No, no, they, to a GOP man and Republican woman, were courageously protesting those things all along, instead talking fiscal responsibility and small government and encouraging their fellow GOPers to do the same yada yada ...
You'll find none with an accurate memory or honest tongue.
This morning on "Meet the Press," Virginia's Republican governor, Bob McDonnell, said he dismissed all that "birtherism" talk long ago and encouraged his fellow GOPers to do the same.
Don't look to him to defend the madness, for he was innocent; he courageously stood against his party's dementia; he tried his best to thwart its fatuous distractions.
Good grief, they simply never tire of jumping the check-out lanes at Walmart.
Now, maybe Gov. McDonnell did in fact discourage the madness. I don't know. My point, though, is that soon we'll find that not one Republican pol ever stoked its fires. Not one.
