Whither hope?

One more note on Gerson's column today, which opens with a stunning reference to President Obama's "[pursuit of] Keynesian economics on a breathtaking scale" and closes with a re-stunning reference to "Obama’s surprisingly unreconstructed liberalism." 

One nearly despairs. I mean, if one cannot pound rather simple, unreconstructed reality into the brain of a conservative as manifestly intelligent as Gerson, what hope for contemporary conservatism is there?
