From Foreign Policy:
This week, a number of Republican senators have strongly criticized the administration for failing to properly explain the circumstances surrounding the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi. Some of those senators [John McCain, Rand Paul] failed to show up for a briefing on the attack Wednesday.
Is it really necessary to point out--again--that the GOP is a profoundly unserious party? That it's void of ideas but brimming with malice? That it's an attack machine and nothing else?
I once believed that a sound electoral thrashing of the Republican Party would mitigate its degeneration and simultaneously impel internal reforms--an honest-to-God, come-to-Jesus, Socratic reexamination of its every existential being. Last week was close enough to said thrashing. And yet the party only seems to be degenerating more maliciously than ever.
It may be beyond hope.
