I heard an interesting suggestion that what we are seeing is really not a struggle between Republicans and Democrats but a struggle within the Republican party for control of the party. Ted Cruz is not engaging in this fight to defeat Obama. He is engaging in it to defeat Boehner and McConnell. If Boehner and McConnel were to agree to any clean CR than that would give Cruz exactly what he wants: a bullet to killed the leadership with.

Boehner knows this and he doesn't want Cruz to control his party. So if that means risking the stability of the country's (and the world's) economy, then so be it.

Chris,
Where did you hear this? It would help explain why Boehner still hasn't gone to see Pelosi. I'm beginning to wonder what will spur him to do that. Destroying the stability of the country's (and the world's) economy?
