That's how it goes. When you have nothing left to lose, you weaken the filibuster. If the Senate Rs were playing this better, they would have left cooperation alive to be used as a hostage.

As for sacred Senate tradition, the filibuster's history does not inspire reverence.

And, why should the Constitutionally less democratic House of Congress remain even less democratic than specified in the Constitution?
