On C-Span3 I'm watching the 1960 West Virgina Democratic primary debate between Hubert Humphrey and John Kennedy. Each gentleman has -- are you ready for this? -- five minutes for rebuttal.

One item of interest. Kennedy was asked if he favored a tax cut (specifically, an increase in individual exemptions). He answered that it would be absurdly irresponsible of him to propose increased spending (such as greater federal relief for poor West Virginians) while advocating less revenue. Kennedy could have no idea what was coming, 20 years later.
