There are only two heroes on the Senate floor this afternoon — Sens. Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, both of whom voted not to proceed with … whatever.
John McCain merely flew from his sickbed to betray the interests of the American people. He is no longer a maverick — far from it; he's but a cog in McConnell's machine — and his "hero" status is so antiquated as to be dismissible.
Sen. McCain had a historic opportunity to do the right and heroic thing this afternoon, and he blew it. Who cares if he then stood on the Senate floor and denounced right-wing radio hosts? He had just demonstrated his cowardice; he's just another Republican — full of sound, fury, and shit.

In partial defense of McCain, his was only a vote to proceed with debate on … whatever. The mishmash of GOP health-care "reform" remains almost certainly doomed, which McCain knows as well as anyone.
