Here's the take on McCain's vote by the Washington Post's James Hohmann:
The maverick was willing to vote "no" on the "skinny repeal" amendment so that other GOP colleagues who were also opposed to the measure could vote "yes" to save face with the conservative base.
The maverick's "no" vote, then, was actually an anti-maverick vote in customary support of his contemptible party. All politics — no principles; anything to provide his colleagues deliverance from the wrath of their mean-spirited base.
In other words, nothing "heroic." In fact, if Hohmann's take is correct, McCain's was the most partisan vote cast last night.
