You've probably seen this video, which is sickening. I post it here to highlight the Time's morning reporting on yesterday's needless incident, which makes it doubly sickening.
How did the Buffalo, NY police department originally describe what happened? The 75-year-old man "tripped and fell." Had radio station WBFO not been at the scene with a camera, that official lie might have succeeded in sparing the two offending officers, who have now been suspended with pay.
Second — and this is even more heartbreaking — Buffalo's mayor Byron Brown, said in a statement: "After days of peaceful protests and several meetings between myself, police leadership and members of the community, tonight’s event is disheartening."
After days of peaceful protests and talks between the protesters and police, organized by the mayor, brutality — softened as "tonight's event" — persists. One wonders what else is required to stamp it out?
