Just a quick note on the insidiousness of Twitter.
Under its "abuse" and "harassment" policies, the site banned me Friday night (for 12 hours) for having cracked a humorous, truthful joke upside a Mike Pompeo tweet. He was preening about having met with and spoken before some typically fascist organization, which is to say, a bunch of Republican activists. I tweeted this to Mike: "Just kinda hanging around while hoping the Donald chokes on a cheeseburger, huh?"
Merely a touch of humor enwrapping an undeniable truth. I wished no one harm, I cast no abuse at Pompeo. What I did was reflect on human nature — with Pompeo's sort being especially keen in presidential contenders who aren't particularly fond of frontrunners; those who hope time and, ahem, circumstances might resolve the problem.
A moment before I tweeted that, I saw this from Sen. Tom Cotton:
Many of Joe Biden's problems are caused by his incompetence.
— Tom Cotton (@TomCottonAR) October 8, 2021
But not the border crisis.
This attack on our fundamental sovereignty is by design.
The Arkansas senator was directly channeling Tucker Carlson in saying that President Biden is intentionally, even criminally "replacing" white Americans with immigrant people of color. He didn't even bother with a spot of humor, if indeed he possesses that sense. If that's not tweeted abusiveness and harassment, then I really don't know what either one is. Yet, by Twitter's standards, Cotton's tweet was just fine.
Ah, but his was against a public figure and therefore fair game, you say. To which I would answer, so was mine.
Social media is one bizarre place.
