Matt Gaetz need not worry. He has Marjorie Taylor Greene on his side, and she's upset by all the "absurd drama" the growing movement to vacate Matt is causing. "A Republican led effort to expel Matt Gaetz absolutely will not be tolerated by Republicans across the country," she said.
Greene explained this in a long, long Twitter thread, in which she added that the dramatic absurdity has something to do with "the Washington war machine's blood thirsty [sic] obsession of [sic] killing Russians."
So Matt also has logic on his side.
But as for his motion to vacate the speaker's chair. he's unlikely to have Democrats on his side. It's virtually unheard of for an opposition party to vote for the other party's guy, however this is the age of norm-breaking.
Speaker McCarthy hasn't the GOP votes to survive. Hence, as he did with CR vote, he'll turn to the Democrats. They'll have demands, including:
"Funding the government at levels previously agreed to by McCarthy and President Biden, the reallocation of the number of Democrats compared with Republicans on committees and a more equal percentage of earmarks in appropriations bills."
Newt Gingrich recently joked that Rep. Gaetz might be a secret weapon of the Democrats. But, any longer, it's neither a joke nor a secret.
