If you have ever wanted handy, quickly accessible proof that there are two cable networks that come from two entirely separate universes — one, our known universe; the other, a parallel cosmos in which fantasies reign — then bookmark this post to amuse your friends, dazzle your doubters and befuddle your family Trumpers.
The first airing presented is NBC's "Meet the Press," Tuesday, 5 December. In it, the host interviews House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer. Proceed to 00.32:23 for the full interview. It begins with Comer blathering his way through a complaint about the Biden family attorney's refusal to testify before a congressional committee — which Comer was fine with when Trump administration officials did it — and then he disgorges that old, thoroughly discredited GOP chestnut about Vice President Biden having nefariously fired a Ukrainian prosecutor so as to save son Hunter's skin.
I would advise skipping that segment (after all, I just repeated it for you) and going directly to 00.34:07. This is where the laughs commence. Its other merit is that the interview takes place in our universe, so you know where you are.
We shall now soldier on to that disorienting parallel universe, home to Fox News. This interview with Comer consumes a mere five minutes, 15 seconds. Thus no time-saving introductory remarks are needed. Here you are:
Wow. That cable-aired weirdness, emanating from an unEarthly cosmos, demonstrated the permeability of our universe. Somewhere out there, in some galaxy far, far away from our known universal environ, all manner of political silliness is occurring. And yet its parallel setting is eerily exact to ours.
If you bothered not with watching it, in the clip Chairman Comer vomits the nonsensical GOP accusation that there's a two-tiered system of justice in (his) America, a lenient one for the Biden family and a strict, harsh one for Trump & Associates. This, he and the Fox interviewer "prove" by observing that the Justice Department "tipped off" Hunter Biden about an upcoming search of his Secret Service-protected property. What neither guest nor host mentions is that Trump, too, same as Hunter, was notified by the Justice department of upcoming searches.
Comer also delights in noting that a repaid Father Biden loan was for Hunter's third car — something, in itself, somehow supremely scandalous. But the money needed to buy car #3? No wonder Hunter had to borrow it.
The principal point, however, is that Comer has no trouble in nailing Joe and Hunter Biden but good. The reason for his ease, of course, is that the Fox host simply nodded along and affirmed his every accusation. We assume, even from our faraway vista, that rabid hordes of Comer-like-minded viewers watched the interview in the grossly misguided belief that they were hearing the straight and indisputable story. Damn what an evil, corrupt man is President Biden.
I present this post as a public service to you, for future reference. I also offer it to the astrophysicist community. To you ladies and gentlemen of our scientific world, I say a parallel universe not only exists, it's actually accessible on our TV screens. You just have to know where to find it.
