Astronomers at the Australian National University and their European colleagues announced this week the discovery of what might be the universe's "fastest growing black hole.” It resides in a quasar they sexily named "J0529-4351."
The black hole is gulping a star a day, which by now has made it "17 billion times as massive as the sun." The Milky Way's black hole is puny by comparison, a mere four million times as large.
The above is an artist's rendition.
The quasar's accretion disc — "a flattened, circular or elliptical structure that is formed when material falls towards a strong gravitational force," like a black hole — "releases a radiative energy that is equivalent to the output from between 365 and 640 trillion suns," which, added the astronomers, is also equivalent to the doodoo output of a Trump speech.
If Trump gets back in office, I hope it
mercifully devours us.
