CBS News released its commissioned
YouGov results yesterday. Not only is the pollster top rated, at 2.9/3.0, it sampled more than 3,000 registered voters — roughly triple that of most surveys. That reduced its margin of error to 2.1, which is nearly unheard of. And to look at Truth Social, you might think Trump couldn't be happier about YouGov's findings.
That's what his followers are seeing. And that's all his followers are seeing. Because this is what everyone else is seeing from the same poll.
His followers are also the only ones who ever watch Fox Business Network, and on Friday they were treated to some other gaslighting: why Trump is ducking out of the next scheduled debate. His principal reason was as counterfeit as his bragging about the YouGov poll.
Said Trump to hard-hitting journalist Maria Bartiromo, "I mean, right now I say, why should I do a debate? I'm leading in the polls." Which he isn't; in fact virtually every respectable poll is now lighting up in blue. Still, I did learn something by watching
a clip of his Fox Business-Bartiromo interview, and it was shocking. Harris wants to
quadruple our taxes.
That's not all I learned. Trump also revealed some of his deep knowledge of Chinese history, He led into this topic by noting that "our country is becoming drug-addicted," mainly because Harris, like Biden, is keen on inviting swarthy, drug-carting criminal types across our "open border" with Mexico.
And wouldn't you just know it? American is now "like China from 200 years ago," said Trump. Those people, you see, lost their country way back when because, he continued, "everybody was drugged out with the opium."
On a related note, I recently ran across an article in which China's foreign minister said U.S.-Sino relations were "reaching a bewildering level of unfathomable absurdity." He ain't seen nothin' yet, not if Trump reenters the White House.
Speaking of the unfathomably absurd, Trump made one other point on Truth Social about his debate-ducking. "Kamala Harris doesn’t have the mental capacity to do a REAL Debate against me," he said. Even more than that, "she’s afraid to" debate him, one reason being — and he kidded us not — "there is no way she can justify ... her years long fight to stop the words, 'Merry Christmas.'"
I don't link to Truth Social, but they're there, those very words — written by a man who scoffs at his opponent's "mental capacity." I'll leave it at that.
What is he so afraid of?
