The text-exchange story is more than two years old, it made all the major newspapers. But what came of it received little media attention. I thought I should update the saga — of Brad Parscale, the head of Trump's digital operations throughout the 2016 campaign. In the 2020 race Parscale was campaign manager, then demoted, then pushed out altogether; my mistake, "[I'm] stepping away ... for the immediate future to focus on my family," he wrote in regulation humbug.
In bringing us up-to-date, first some background since the tale is somewhat aged. After Trump's November implosion and wee bit of incivility in early January 2021, Mr. Parscale had a change of heart about all things Trump. On the night of J6, in a series of text go-arounds with former campaign advisor Katrina Pierson he expressed his sudden conversion. The exchange follows. I would apology for its lack of resolution but such was the original. We'll get current right after the texts.
Helping him four years earlier, that is.
Ergo, if I "feel" it's right to rob a bank on Monday, then my feeling is justified.
Yeah, there's that, a definite drawback.
So Katrina was aware of the inevitable, yet, like Brad, that had troubled her not.
What came next? Only one month later?
Statement to Trump:
— Brad Parscale (@parscale) February 6, 2021
“If they only impeached you twice, you need to run again. Because to change the system you have to kick it in the a#$. I would love to be the only President to be impeached three times. Because history remembers those that didn’t conform.
I’m in, are you?”
And just a week after that? Even though whacked as campaign manager a few months before and then heartbroken by the lethal events of 6 Jan., Parscale was back with Team Trump. The latter realized this had to be, but only when they belatedly realized that all the campaign's digital information was on — guess whose computer servers? Said a Republican source to Business Insider, "When they exiled him they screwed up, because he still owns everything. They can't even put out a press release.... They have to do it on his servers."
When desecrating the White House and dishonoring the presidency, Trump managed his administration, oversaw domestic issues and dealt with America's allies with the same dazzling incompetence. But back to the rehired digital guy of more recent vintage. Mother Jones noted that "since the start of 2023, Parscale has raked in hundreds of thousands of dollars providing services to Trump’s 2024 campaign."
Yes but in the more accommodating days of 2016, campaign manager Parscale had a car and driver — a whole new fringy benefit for that position in any campaign — while shoveling more than $39 million into two of his companies, Parscale Strategy LLC and Giles-Parscale.
Now about his J6 texts to Ms. Pierson. Touching; still, there is something to be said for hundreds of thousands or better yet millions in grifted greenbacks from an employer who's forensically ignorant of where his money is going. Is either not enough to let bygones be bygones?
After all, what's an employer's attempt to rob voters of their expressed will and "ask for a civil war" when the outcome is merely one dead woman and, unmentioned by Parscale, seven others? Just a fading memory, and clearly a less bothersome one by the day. That's what.
