Today is November 3rd, and below are clips I've taken from just a few political fundraising emails I've received since only the 1st of November. Not only is this clutter merely a fraction of the junk that has come in over the past couple days, the very same appeals — same wording, same promises, same organizations — have been pouring into my inbox for months.
And every one of them is a scam. Most recipients would recognize that right off, since the people offering to match your contribution are never named; instead they in one form or another will supposedly cough up a whole bunch of cash on your behalf. I assume the scammers rely on folks less able to see red flags, those who might be, say, a little elderly, perhaps a little confused — the scammers themselves, the lowlife sort who happily victimize the vulnerable.
Another obvious tip-off is the matching amounts, anywhere from 200% to 900% in the examples below. A contribution of $1,000 for an actual 900% match would instantly violate campaign finance laws, given the caps on individual giving — therefore the matchers would never match the incoming money to begin with, even if matchers there are. Which there aren't.
I understand Trump recently promised a 1,000% match of every dollar taken in, although campaign finance laws would faze him not all. He might break the laws for the fun of it, but he'd probably just pocket your cash instead. I don't recall receiving that particular offer in my inbox, but at least a couple dozen other far rightists regularly send me similar bunkum. I seem to be on everyone's list; from the right, I suppose because I have a Truth Social account. Selling the names and email addresses of idiots like me is probably the only profitable side of Trump's website.
You're likely receiving the same fraudulent email trash I get — indeed there's no question of that if you've ever given a dime to any campaign. So other than finally getting Election Day out of the way this Tuesday, after suffering this Thirty Year War and 40-year election season, we should also have much cleaner inboxes as of Wednesday.
By the way, here's what a legitimate political fundraising email looks like, in case you've been wondering.
