Quick take

I had intended to mention my rejoinder just after hearing Thursday's provocation on a news network, which one, I cannot recall. But it got swept away in the deep undercurrents of all else that's raging downstream so nonsensically in both domestic and international affairs.

I had the news on, sometime in the a.m., when I heard a reporter at the NATO Summit say that Ukraine was promised membership in the alliance in 2004, but ...

— then Russia invaded Ukraine, which put an end to that talk.  

That's near verbatim, if not entirely. And the reporting, its logic and its casual delivery as if it made perfect sense, hit me right upside the head. 

Would not a Russian invasion of Ukraine only expedite its NATO membership? Like, on 25 February 2022? 

Of course not. And that bit of insanity we can just chalk up to the world in general having lost its mind.  

Jim Jordan has wrestled himself ragged

I propose an immediate House rule change. Make it democratic. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries just received 212 votes for the speakership. Majority Jihadist Jim Jordan received only 199 votes. So Jeffries won. Just give him the goddamn gavel.

Twenty-two other House members were too busy to vote; they were instead doing the usual business of the lower chamber, either screwing an intern or fondling a page or, even more likely and less honorable, they were on the phone extorting campaign cash from wealthy businessfolk back home. 

LBJ, who served in both the House and the Senate before his accidental presidency, once said that the House is "chickenshit" while the Senate is "chicken salad." Although Johnson's characterization of the Senate no longer holds, it sure does for the House.

There's a wonky idea floating around that suggests the House should be expanded up to 750 seats. These wonks are real wankers. If anything, the People would be better served if the House were skeletalized to about 100 seats: two to three members for authentically populated states and one for each red wasteland, granted just out of courtesy.

There is nothing in the Constitution that fixes the number of House seats at 435, that number was Congress's fatuous innovation in the halcyon year of 1929. The Senate would require a Constitutional makeover, but its number, too, should be reduced: two senators for each aforementioned populated state and one ex-con for all of Dixie.  

Meanwhile, as far as I'm concerned Hakeem Jeffries is the legitimate speaker of the House on Haunted Hill — Vincent Price, speaker pro tempore.
