An open letter to MAGA

I've mentioned in this space that recently I short-term subscribed to a Substack page written by a fellow who calls himself a former newspaper man — a self-designation that chills, since he once wrote for the public absent an active neuron in his head. Which is to say, he's full-blown MAGA.
My subscription is coming to a blessed close. Thus I left a final comment on his site this morning, which I reproduce here in acknowledgment of, quite possibly, very poor judgment on my part. Further study and deep meditation are warranted, but I suspect that all along I held a conviction that was just plain wrong. Departing comment, addressing MAGA at large, follows.
***
I shall take my leave now. (Hold down the applause, please.) I signed up for only one month of this site and only to note its "author's" profound ignorance by way of (to most people) obvious corrections to the lapdog slop he writes. But I learned something along the way. To such conspicuous slop-corrections not one of Mr Surber's loyal readers/commenters replied, "You know, I hadn't thought of that, but yeah, Surber [meaning Trump] has it wrong." What have I learned from this? On my own site I have argued more than once that most MAGA types aren't downright stupid, they're just ignorant of American and world history, economics, government, constitutionalism — all that sort of stuff. Yet they feel superior to others who not only do know this stuff, these others do a whole lot of stuff that benefits America, rather than tearing it down and ripping it apart, as Trump is doing. And again, what he's doing is bloody obvious to everyone with a useful brain. Hence my experience on this site has largely changed my mind on the matter of MAGA's ignorance vs. stupidity. It now seems to me that only the most stunningly dumb s.o.b. could so grossly misunderstand what Trump stands for: sheer unAmerican evil. We others shall overcome, just as we overcame similar global fascism 80 years ago. And MAGA? It'll become the next John Birch Society, the fringe of the extremist fringe, forgotten by all but political historians, among whom I happen to be one. So you'll be in my thoughts, guys, as time grinds your mindless sort into dust.
